June 8th is World Oceans Day. The idea came from a proposal by the Government of Canada (yay!) at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and to the United Nations who have officially recognised June 8th as World Oceans Day since 2008.
The concept is pretty simple; to keep the world’s water supply healthy to that it can provide for the billions of living things, both plant and animal, that inhabit the Earth. I encourage you to visit the WCD website for inspiration, information and perhaps make plans for your own World Ocean Day event next year.
